Slackware ARM on a Raspberry Pi

SARPi Downloads

In this SARPi downloads section you will find:

SARPi installer images and system packages for installing/updating Slackware ARM Linux.
Slackware ARM -current packages supporting SARPi Projects.
Slackware ARM 14.2 packages supporting SARPi Projects.

The SARPi installer images and packages have been created specifically for the Raspberry Pi 1, 2, 3. The installer images incorporate the kernel_sarpi, kernel-modules-sarpi, sarpi-boot-firmware, and sarpi-hacks packages. The installers and packages are all built on Raspberry Pis running Slackware ARM, using the official Slackware ARM mini root filesystem and Raspberry Pi Foundation GitHub repository sources. To ensure and maintain absolute compatibility, none of the installers or packages that the SARPi Project provides are cross-compiled or created on any other hardware platform.

Slackware ARM -current hard float port and 14.2 soft float port installer images are available. If you don't know what the differences are, or aren't sure which version is best for you, there's a good soft and hard float FAQ by MoZes which may be helpful.

FatDog says ... Important: Always be aware that Slackware ARM -current is a hard float port and Slackware ARM 14.2 is a soft float port. DO NOT try to install Slackware ARM -current using a 14.2 installer (and vice versa). The same goes for Slackware ARM packages. Choose the appropriate package(s) for the Slackware ARM version you are already running!

NB: Slackware ARM -current hard float port has a minimum CPU requirement of ARMv7-a architecture and cannot be installed on a Raspberry Pi (1) which features ARMv6 architecture. Slackware ARM -current hard float port can only be installed on a Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3.

Slackware ARM packages

The following Slackware ARM packages are available (and built explicitly) to support SARPi Projects.

FatDog says ... Note for Slackware ARM packages: Make sure to only install package(s) for the Slackware ARM version you're running. Packages that are built for -current hard float port will not work with 14.2 soft float port (and vice versa).

Support for Slackware ARM

If you're in need of help, or have something to contribute, one of the best places to get (and offer) support for Slackware ARM is on the Linux Questions Forum. Another valuable resource is the Slackware Documentation Project.

If you'd like to show your appreciation, and/or support the development of Slackware ARM, you can sponsor the project.
